How old is my can of Sockeye Salmon?

During production a two-line code is printed on the can that allows us to identify the product inside. This code is a series of numbers and letters that will look something like this “2392P 50728” and will be located on either the top or the bottom of the can. Product is generally packed in the summer, and is good for six years as long as the can is not dented, punctured or rusted. To determine the expiration date for the can you will need to reference the top row of the code. The third digit from the left represents the year the can was produced. A code of 2392P was likely packed in 2009 and would expire in 2015. It is important to note that these numbers cycle through every ten years. The product should not be consumed if there is a possibility that the can could be more than 10 years old.
