Dungeness Crab seasons have been a tradition if the Pacific Northwest since the early 1800's. Every crab boasts an armor-like shell that once cracked open reveals a sweet and delicate crab meat. Beyond the flavor, Dungeness Crab come packed with protein and other key nutrients, and have a low fat content - making them a delicious and healthy choice.

Dungeness Crab

Dungeness crab is a beloved Pacific delicacy known for its sweet, delicate flavor and tender, flaky meat. The texture is both soft and slightly firm, making it easy to enjoy in a variety of dishes. Its sweet, briny taste is often highlighted by a subtle nuttiness, making it a favorite for crab boils, salads, and sandwiches.

Nutritionally, Dungeness crab is a low-calorie source of high-quality protein, rich in essential nutrients. It is also packed with Omega-3's.

Preparation: Because these crabs are pre-cooked, all that is required for preparation is thawing, cleaning and serving chilled. For cleaning instructions, look to the next tab. If interested in serving warm, there are three recommended methods of reheating Dungeness Crab - Baking (275° F), Steaming or Boiling. Each method only requires around 4-minutes to bring the crab to the perfect temperature without overcooking.

Cracking The Shell & Serving: Begin by striking the shell just hard enough to create a crack, but not so hard as to crush the meat. We recommend using tools for cracking shellfish to help in cracking the various sections of the Dungeness Crab. The versatility of Dungeness Crab meat is great for both enjoying directly from the shell or in a variety of crab-based recipes.

  1. Hold the base of your crab with one hand, place your thumb under its shell at midpoint, and pull off the shell.
  2. The leaf-like gills are now exposed. Gently scrape them away with your thumb or the edge of a spoon.
  3. Wash away the "crab butter" (viscera) under a heavy stream of cold water.

Each Dungeness Crab can be stored in the freezer for up to 6 months. Once thawed, each crab lasts 3 days with refrigeration.
