5 Pacific Northwest Outdoor Adventures for Father’s Day

5 Pacific Northwest Outdoor Adventures for Father’s Day

At SeaBear, we feel a deep connection to the Pacific Northwest. Founded and based out of Anacortes with premium products sourced from right here in the PNW, there is an appreciation for the landscapes that inspires what we do. Washington is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts, offering debatably the most diverse set of terrains and adventures in one region that you can get

While the greater PNW is much more than just Washington, we’re going to focus on Washington, well, because we want to. So for this Father’s Day, we urge you to get out there and experience what Washington offers. Ditch the new putter and share an adventure in this state which never stops spoiling us. Whether the dad in your life prefers a peaceful escape or seeks out adrenaline, the Evergreen State’s got what you’re looking for

1. Kayaking Washington’s Scenic Waters

Paddle boarding is overrated. It’s a great choice if you are only looking for a workout but with kayaking, there is no constant feeling of losing your balance and you can sit down and take in the wildlife and scenery that surrounds you. Kayaking offers the opportunity to slow down and hopefully spot a few of the many Washingtonian aquatic friends.

If you’re around the Seattle area, Alki Beach provides easy access to protected waters, offering spectacular views of the city skyline and the Olympics and Cascades on a clear day. Those seeking a more immersive experience can venture to the San Juan Islands, where kayaking tours navigate waters rich in marine life, including orcas, seals, porpoises, eagles, and many more. For thrill-seekers who are experienced kayakers, whitewater kayaking on the Wenatchee is the way to go.

Further south, the inlets near Olympia and Hood Canal offer peaceful paddling opportunities with fewer crowds. The backdrop of the Olympic Mountains rising from Hood Canal creates an unforgettable setting for a day on the water.

Whether you opt for a leisurely hour-long paddle or a full-day exploration, kayaking tends to be an experience to remember.

2. Hiking Washington’s Iconic Trails

On a nice summer day in Washington, a good hike is hard to beat. Washington has trails suitable for all skill levels, whether that’s immersed in a forest or on alpine ridges.  Want a more immersive experience on less-traveled paths? Duckabush River Trail or Marmot Pass in the Olympic National Forest are great options. Moss-draped trees and scenery suitable for paintings, these trails provide a quieter alternative.

Sneak-peek into the most iconic trail on the west coast and choose to hike a section of the Pacific Crest Trail near Snoqualmie Pass or Stevens Pass. Not just experts can say they’ve hiked on the Pacific Crest Trail, and don’t worry, we won’t tell anyone it was just a day hike.

If convenience is important, trails like Rattlesnake Ledge and Cougar Mountain near Seattle provide accessible yet rewarding hikes. If you are located closer to eastern Washington, Bowl and Pitcher loop trail and Liberty Lake Loop Trail are great options for convenient hikes. Be careful with crowds! Especially on a holiday like Father’s Day and on these popular routes, early birds are at an advantage. Regardless of the difficulty of the trail, they offer endless opportunities for selfies with Dad.

3. Cycling Through Washington’s Scenic Landscape

Big cycling family? Washington’s trails offer a way to cover more ground and enjoy more of the natural beauty of the region.

Mountain biking enthusiasts will appreciate the trails around Mazama in the Methow Valley or the technical routes winding through the North Cascades. The Sun Mountain Lodge area offers options tailored to different experience levels.

For a relaxed ride, the Olympic Discovery Trail spans over 130 miles across the Olympic Peninsula, offering paved pathways with coastal and forest views. East of the Cascades, Spokane’s Centennial Trail follows the Spokane River for 40 miles and continuously delivers scenic vistas and wildlife encounters throughout the trail.

Renting bikes is simple in most areas, ensuring accessibility even for those without personal gear.

4. Exploring Washington’s Majestic Waterfall

The options just keep on going, the Evergreen State’s got waterfalls as well. Washington is home to some of the coolest waterfalls in the country

For easy access, Snoqualmie Falls has a powerful display of cascading water and even some cooling mist on warm June days.

Near the Palouse? Or just driving through? Eastern Washington’s Palouse Falls plunges into the rugged canyon leaving you lost for words. The short walk from the parking lot ensures accessibility for visitors of all mobility levels.

For a more secluded experience, Falls Creek Falls in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest or Upper Lewis River Falls reward hikers, usually without the large crowds to navigate.

Waterfall exploration turns a simple day trip into an adventure with a destination

5. Outdoor Dining and Cooking in Washington’s Wild Spaces

We’re not scientists, but a meal enjoyed outdoors just tastes better. Especially if being shared with loved ones or family on Father’s Day

Easily accessible parks like Golden Gardens in Seattle, Dash Point State Park, or Lake Sammamish offer designated grilling areas with beautiful water or mountain views.

For a more immersive experience, consider a camping trip at one of Washington’s state parks or national forest sites. Either way, SeaBear can minimize grocery shopping stress.

SeaBear offers a variety of Northwest flavors perfect for outdoor meals, from ready-to-eat smoked salmon or salmon jerky for trail snacks to our delicious fillets or hearty seafood chowders that heat easily over a campfire. Or take on the challenge of cooking fresh fish over an open flame and own bragging rights for the most Northwestern Father’s Day around.
