We offer four distinct styles of salmon, each crafted to meet different preferences and occasions. With so many great choices, it can be hard to know where to start. Here's a simple breakdown of each category to help you pick the right salmon every time. 


 

1. Pacific Northwest Smoked Salmon

 

 

 

 

What it is: Hot-smoked salmon that honors thousands of years of Pacific Northwest tradition, from the Puget Sound to the Gulf of Alaska.

 

How it's prepared: Fully cooked through hot-smoking for flaky, tender texture with rich, smoky flavor.

 

How it's shipped: Shipped frozen on ice to preserve freshness.

 

Ready to enjoy: Let thaw, then enjoy. No cooking required.

 

Perfect for:

Storage: Keep frozen until ready to use, then thaw and refrigerate. Stays fresh for up to six months while frozen, up to 21 days while refrigerated unopened, and up to five days while refrigerated and opened.

2. Shelf-Stable Salmon

What it is: We have two main categories of our shelf stable salmon. First, our Gold Seal Pouches™ are a SeaBear original that changed how smoked salmon is preserved. Tom Savidge invented the Gold Seal Pouch right here at SeaBear when Anacortes tavern owners wanted smoked salmon that lasted longer without refrigeration. Along with our Gold Seal Pouches, our entire Ready to Eat line, which includes our Ready to Eat Pouches and Salmon Jerky, is shelf stable. 

 

How it works: Wild salmon is smoked, vacuum-sealed in our special pouch, then cooked in its own juices. No refrigeration needed until you open it.

 

How it's shipped: Shipped in our gold seal pouch—no ice needed.

Storage: Shelf-stable until opened, then refrigerate. Think of the pouch like a “flexible can” – as long as the pouch is not punctured, leaking or opened, the product inside will stay good for at least 4 years.

3. Cold-Smoked Salmon (Lox) 

 

 

 

 

What it is: Gourmet cold-smoked salmon through our Gerard and Dominique line since 2008.

 

How it's prepared: Carefully cured, not cooked, preserving silky texture and delicate flavor. Smoked slowly at low temperatures, we preserve its natural flavors and retain the silky smooth texture of the lox. 

 

How it's shipped: Shipped frozen on ice to maintain quality.

 

Ready to enjoy: Let thaw before serving.

 

Perfect for:

 

  • Classic bagels with cream cheese
  • Elegant charcuterie boards
  • Canapés and hors d'oeuvres
  • Gourmet breakfast spreads
  • Special occasion entertaining

 

Storage: Keep frozen until use and refrigerate after opening. Smoked Salmon Lox can be stored in the freezer for up to six months. Once thawed, but unopened, keep refrigerated for up to 30 days. Once you’ve opened, enjoy it within 2-3 days.

4. Salmon Dinner Fillets

 

 

 

 

What it is: Wild-caught salmon in its purest form.

 

How it's prepared: Upon arrival, our expert fillet team will hand fillet and hand trim the fish, removing the bones in the process. 

 

How it's shipped:  It is then shipped frozen on ice to preserve natural freshness.

 

Important note: Raw salmon. Must thaw and cook before serving—whether baking, pan-searing, or grilling.

 

Perfect for:

 

  • Grilling for summer dinners
  • Pan-searing for quick weeknight meals
  • Baking for healthy family dinners
  • Special occasion home cooking
  • Meal prep and planning

 

Storage: These fillets will maintain their freshness for 3-4 months while frozen. Upon thawing, each should be prepared within 1-2 days. We recommend thawing overnight for 8-10 hours in the refrigerator. While you can refreeze the fillets within the first day of thawing, we do not recommend refreezing.
